Highlights Beyond Highlights – October 26th vs. Wild

Saturday's win against Minnesota definitely had a lot going for it. True, the Flyers need to generate more shots on goal in the early stages – even though they had almost half a dozen high-quality chances on goal in the first two periods of the game that didn't result in shots on goal – and also continue to work on it. By not putting in the effort, almost everything else about their game became significantly improved.

There were a few plays early on that were examples of the tone the Flyers set in the contest. John Tortorella had talked about the Flyers' forwards being flat, which didn't allow the defenses to step up and create transition offense.

Here's a look at an outbreak in Minnesota where the situation improved. The first outlet pass to the Wild player in the neutral zone beats Tyson Foerster, but not Ryan Poehling. If they had been flat, this pass would have beaten both Flyers and left Travis Sanheim facing two Wild players while Poehling perhaps tried to recover.

Instead, Poehling can pressure the opponent in the neutral zone to make a bad pass along the wall towards his teammate. That allows Sanheim to pinch hit and play a one-touch pass to Poehling that sends the play the other way.
