Huskies fall to No. 3 BU

BOSTON, Mass. – The UConn men's ice hockey team fell to No. 3 Boston University 4-2 in the final Friday night. The Huskies trailed by one early in the final period, but two goals from the Terriers in the third period put the Huskies in trouble. Hudson Schandor And Jake Percival were the Huskies' only scorers.

He was a freshman in his first career start and appearance in a UConn uniform Thomas Heaney stayed strong and made nine saves in the first period. The Terriers appeared to have taken the lead midway through the first period, but Heaney parried the breakaway. As captain, UConn scored first late in the first period Hudson Schandor blocked a shot in the defensive zone, then collected the puck at center ice and beat the goaltender five holes on the breakaway to give UConn a 1-0 lead.

The second period was all for the Terriers as they scored two unanswered goals to take the lead heading into the third period. Boston University tied the game two minutes into the second period when the Terriers won the faceoff in the offensive zone and then Cole Eiserman put the puck hard into the net, beating freshman goaltender Tommy Heaney. The Terriers scored their second goal of the night again later in the second period after a faceoff win in the offensive zone. UConn was able to tie the score in the second period and entered the third period trailing by one.

There is a risk of a five-minute major and game misconduct penalty John Spetz hurt the Huskies in the third period as Boston University took a 3-1 lead midway through the third period. The Huskies responded immediately as Tabor Heaslip found Jake Percival for the shorthanded goal that reduced the Terriers' lead to one. A sharp penalty against the Huskies with six minutes left left UConn playing 5-on-3. The Huskies converted the major penalty and the two-minute minor penalty, allowing just one goal to stay within striking distance. Late in the third period, the Terriers extended their lead to 4-2 after a tripping penalty against Boston University and a face-up penalty against UConn. The two-goal deficit was too much for the Huskies as they fell to No. 3 Boston University.
