Possible tropical impacts on Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Florida. — Residents in northeast Florida and southeast Georgia are bracing for a possible Category 3 storm that is expected to make landfall somewhere between Cedar Key and Tallahassee. Using Exact Track 4D technology, the weather agency has predicted conditions will worsen early Thursday and continue to worsen throughout the day.

Expected weather conditions

Thursday is expected to be the most impactful day. Areas such as Alachua, Union, Bradford, Baker and Columbia counties in northeast Florida are expected to receive the bulk of the storm. Inland areas around Charlton, Brantley, Ware County and along the I-75 corridor will also be significantly impacted. Wind gusts could exceed 90 mph, with Gainesville experiencing winds between 60 and 70 mph. In addition, tornado warnings could be issued for the entire region Wednesday night into Friday morning.

Preparation and safety

The weather agency is urging residents to complete their storm preparations by Wednesday. While much of Thursday will be spent under various watches and warnings, conditions are expected to improve by early Friday as dry air moves in. This will limit flooding, but it will continue to be windy. Residents are also being advised to prepare for possible cleanup after the storm. Keep an eye on the latest forecasts and updates for any potential changes.
