Is Diontae Johnson playing today? Full injury update for Carolina Panthers WR

The Carolina Panthers are riding the crest of a wave after their sensational win at the Las Vegas Raiders. On the offensive side, this was a completely different operation that stemmed from the team's decision to bench quarterback Bryce Young after an abysmal start to the season.

Andy Dalton came in and immediately blossomed. He got the football out on time, didn't cause turnovers and ensured there was a level of control in the group that inspired those around him. It was a fantastic first appearance from the former second-round pick – one that conveyed the belief that something special could be coming under his leadership.

No one benefited more from Dalton's improved distribution under center than Diontae Johnson. Acquired this offseason from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the wide receiver came to life after two indifferent contests to start the season. It turns out those issues were more related to quarterback production than anything underlying.

Johnson was nothing short of sensational with the Raiders. He recorded eight receptions on 14 targets for 122 receiving yards and one touchdown. His adept route running and ability to create yards after the catch were two encouraging traits that should serve the Panthers well in the future.

As always with the Panthers, it's never easy. Johnson landed on the injury report with a groin complication, although the wideout admitted it was merely a precautionary measure to keep him on the sidelines due to the treacherous weather conditions that hit the region earlier this week.

The former third-round pick from Toledo is considered questionable for the duel. However, a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter states that Johnson will start in Week 4 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

This is great news, but it will be crucial to closely monitor his progress in the opening games. Groin complications can occur in the blink of an eye – especially for players who, like Johnson, rely heavily on quick movements. Hopefully that won't be the case and the Panthers continue to get Pro Bowl-level performance from the talented pass catcher en route to their second win of the season.

Johnson has more responsibility than ever before after veteran wideout Adam Thielen was placed on injured reserve with a hamstring injury that will sideline him for at least four weeks. The last thing Carolina needs is for one of their key playmakers to miss time, so playing it safe and picking their spots is crucial.
