Veterans Day is Monday, November 11th, and offers Americans an opportunity to honor all who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

The federal holiday is celebrated on November 11th because an armistice agreement was signed between the Allies and Germany on November 11th, 1918 during the First World War. The date is considered the end of the war, although it officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed months later, according to the Department of Veterans Affairs. As communities across the country prepare for Veterans Day parades and celebrations to celebrate the holiday, here's what you should know about what's open and closed on Veterans Day.

Is the stock market open on Veterans Day?

The short answer is: yes.

According to Investopedia, trading activity in US markets occurs Monday through Friday but is subject to holiday schedules. The NYSE and Nasdaq generally follow the federal government's holiday schedule for closures, but remain open on Veterans Day (and also on Indigenous Peoples Day).

Are banks open on Veterans Day 2024?

Many banks are usually closed on public holidays. City National Bank, Bank of America, Chase, California Bank & Trust and Mechanics Bank are among the financial institutions celebrating Veterans Day, according to their holiday calendars.

Is the DMV open on Veterans Day?

According to the DMV, all California Department of Motor Vehicles offices will be closed on November 11th.

Will mail be delivered on Veterans Day?

According to the US Postal Service, all post offices will be closed on Veterans Day and there will be no regular mail service. Delivery and pickup schedules will resume on November 12th.

UPS said its pickup and delivery services will be available on Veterans Day and UPS stores will be open.

Is school closed on Veterans Day in California?

Some of California's largest public school districts will be closed for Veterans Day, including Los Angeles Unified School District, Long Beach Unified School District, San Diego Unified School District, Fresno Unified School District and San Bernadino City Unified, according to their instructional calendar School District, Riverside Unified School District and Stockton Unified School District. However, parents should check their school district calendar to see which holidays schools are closed in their district.

Veterans Day or Veterans Day?

The holiday is written as Veterans Day rather than Veteran's Day. The day does not belong to veterans and therefore does not need an apostrophe, according to the VA.
