Jacksonville Jaguars Trevor Lawrence on connecting with Brian Thomas Jr.

The Jacksonville Jaguars need quarterback Trevor Lawrence and rising rookie wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. to continue their red-hot connection following their Week 5 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

Thomas has established himself as a dangerous threat in just a short amount of time and Lawrence has taken notice.

“He was great, you know, I was impressed with how he carried himself,” Lawrence said. “He’s just a hard worker, a quieter guy. But when it comes to playing, he's awesome. And I was just impressed with how quickly he got better every week during the season and even after returning to the season. “He's learning the offense very quickly and I think that's helped him quickly now, in the season play, and I look forward to building that connection over the years.

Lawrence connected with Thomas for 122 yards in the air week. After the game he had more praise for the wide receiver and the chemistry between the two seems to be good. Vertical play can be the difference between wins and losses for the Jaguars at this point.

It's imperative that Lawrence and his best vertical target are on the same page.

“There aren’t that many people who like it,” Lawrence said. “Obviously there are a few in the league who are fast and can break away. When they get into the open field, there is no one who can catch them on the other side of the ball. He's definitely one of those guys. So.” The more we find opportunities to get him the ball in those situations, the more points we’ll score with him. But I thought beyond that he did a good job of just being in the right place and doing the right thing. Today I thought we didn't play the game perfectly. Obviously there’s still a lot to learn, playing smart, being in the right spot.”

So far, it looks like the Jaguars made the right move by taking Thomas No. 23 in the 2024 NFL Draft.
