Johnson County voters defeat one percent special purpose tax – Sheridan Media

Johnson County voters were asked during Tuesday's general election to consider a 1 percent dedicated sales and use tax.

Three proposals were incorporated into the ballot measure, where voters could accept or reject one, two or all three proposals.

The first amount included $250,000 for the design, design and construction of improvements to Nolan Road in Kaycee.

This proposal was rejected by voters.

The second proposal included just over $5.7 million for design, engineering, construction and paving, including curb and gutter, sidewalk, and water and sewer lines on North Burritt Avenue from Fort Street to Mathers Street in Buffalo.

This proposal was also rejected by voters.

Although the third proposal was on the ballot, it was not necessary because the Kaycee Branch Library received funding for its expansion project and voters were asked not to vote for this proposal.

The only contested race in Johnson County was for Buffalo City Council, with Richard “Scott” Madsen, Jeffrey Cope and Wes Haskins running for two open seats.

Madsen was re-elected and Haskins won the second seat.

We'll have more Johnson County election results in future stories.
