Juan Soto gives a cryptic answer when asked about Mets as a free agency destination

After the New York Mets' city rivals, the Yankees, lost the World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, the Juan Soto Sweepstakes can now officially begin.

The baseball community agrees that the 26-year-old Soto's two most likely destinations in free agency are the Mets and the Yankees.

Some believe the Yankees have the advantage since Soto seemed to enjoy his one season in the Bronx and they made it to the World Series.

On the other hand, the Mets are also based in New York, made it to the NLCS (and played better against the Dodgers than the Yankees) and seem willing to pay Soto pretty much whatever he wants to bring his talents to Queens bring to.

However, when Soto was asked while speaking to the media after the Yankees' Game 5 loss on Wednesday whether he expected the Mets to pursue him in free agency, he did not provide specifics.

“I don’t know what teams will come after me,” Soto said, according to SNY. “But definitely I will be open to this and every single team. No doors are closed on me or anything like that. So I will be available for all 30 teams.”

One could hardly have expected a more specific answer from Soto, considering his season with the Yankees had ended just moments before and he was certainly still coming to terms with that loss.

Regardless, all indications are that the Mets will be one of the few frontrunners when Soto and his agent Scott Boras get the free agency race underway.
