Ahead of the US presidential election, Democratic White House candidate Kamala Harris gives her first interview with Fox News.

She often clashed with the host over topics such as transgender prisoners, illegal immigration and President Biden's mental fitness.

Harris split from Biden

Gender surgery for prisoners

When asked if she, as president, should advocate for using taxpayer money for gender reassignment surgery, she replies, “I will follow the law.”

However, transgender surgeries were not taking place in the federal prison system when Trump became president.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons told BBC Verify that two federal inmates are not having gender reassignment surgeries – the first was in 2022 and the second in 2023.

If Harris runs as the 2019 Democratic presidential candidate, she will have to check a box on a questionnaire from a civil rights group that will show her as president. She will use her authority to ensure that identifying as a transgender person, detention centers and immigration facilities have access to “treatments related to gender reassignment, including all necessary surgical treatments.”

Harris' campaign says: “Do not be convinced that she is proposing or running for the 2024 election.”

Harris asked her to apologize

Harris dodges the question about Biden's mental state
