Kamala Harris Silences Loud Michigan Rally Participants With Bizarre Joke: 'Call Your Own Name'

Vice President Kamala Harris broke the energy of the crowd during a rally in Michigan on Monday after a bizarre request left her supporters stunned into silence.

“We are all here because we are fighting for a democracy and for the right of people to be heard and seen,” the Democratic candidate told the boisterous crowd in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

“We are not concerned with the enemy within. We know we are all in this together. This is what we are fighting for,” Harris added.

The lines sparked applause from her followers, chanting “Ka-ma-la, Ka-ma-la.”

Apparently eager to move forward with her short speech, Harris made what many on social media described as a “cringe-worthy joke” that brought the cheers to an abrupt halt.

“Now I want each of you to call out your own name. Do this,” Harris urged.

The confused crowd all but fell silent as the vice president laughed at the confusion she caused.

“It’s about all of us,” Harris said before continuing her speech.

Trump campaign adviser Jason Miller shared a clip of the awkward moment on X and captioned it with three facepalm emojis.

“Classic Kamala! Your lack of connection with the audience is appalling,” another X user wrote. “That’s not leadership!”

Several people compared Harris' rally call to the incompetent and despicable behavior of Selina Meyer – the fictional vice president of the hit HBO comedy show “Veep.”

“I swear they could remake Veep with clips of Kamala and it would be even funnier than the original,” one X user wrote.

“The way the crowd stopped is hilarious,” another person remarked.

Harris was mocked earlier Monday when, during a tour of a semiconductor factory in Saginaw, she asked if she could touch a razor-sharp piece of silicon on display at the manufacturing facility.

“Don’t touch it,” a hard-hatted factory worker immediately told the vice president, her hand hovering over a rod of the metalloid.

Harris was joined at the rally in Ann Arbor by her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers, who performed several songs before the Democratic candidate's speech.

Last week, some Harris supporters in Houston were disappointed that Grammy Award-winning artist Beyoncé did not make a brief appearance at a rally for the vice president.

The latest RealClearPolitics polling average shows Harris trailing former President Donald Trump by a tenth of 1% in Michigan.

There are 15 Electoral College votes to choose from in the Wolverine State on Election Day.
