Kane is injured during the draw between Bayern and Leverkusen in the Bundesliga

Harry Kane was left out injured as Bayern Munich were held to a 1-1 draw at home to champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Robert Andrich gave the visitors the lead in Munich after 31 minutes, but Aleksandar Pavlovic equalized for leaders Bayern eight minutes later with an incredible long-range shot.

England captain Kane, who remained largely anonymous in front of goal, limped off with a foot injury four minutes from time.

Bayern's Serge Gnabry had the best chance of hitting the woodwork twice in the second half, but Leverkusen secured the equalizer.

Bayern have been champions for the last eleven seasons, Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen turned German football on its head last season and became the first team to complete the league and cup double undefeated.

The altercation was vicious in the early stages: Bayern's Dayot Upamecano was shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away and Leverkusen's coach Alonso received the same penalty for arguing with the referee.

Bayern were completely dominant at the start, depriving Alonso's men of the ball and setting up camp outside the Leverkusen penalty area.

The hosts' best chance was a free kick in the 19th minute, in which Michael Olise curled the ball just a few centimeters over the goal.

However, Leverkusen took the lead completely against the run of play when Andrich sank a low shot after a Pavlovic error.

Despite their dominant field position, Bayern managed to equalize with a breathtaking shot from well outside the penalty area. Pavlovic made up for his mistake with an excellent curling effort from well outside the penalty area.

The hosts started the second half in the same way as the first, with Gnabry hitting the woodwork twice within seconds after a classic pass from Kane.

In the final minutes both teams appeared content to wait for a draw, but while leaders Bayern remain three points clear of third-placed Leverkusen, Kane's late injury will be a concern ahead of a busy fixture list.

Earlier, Benjamin Sesko scored twice within five minutes of the first half as RB Leipzig's young attack used an excellent combination to beat Augsburg 4-0 at home.

Sesko scored twice and set up fellow 21-year-old Xavi Simons, who himself set up a goal for 24-year-old Lois Openda.

Augsburg's best chance of the game came when a penalty was saved midway through the first half.

Leipzig coach Marco Rose praised his team's “belief in ourselves” and said “we were anything but happy” after they went three games without a win.

Last year's runners-up Stuttgart came back down to earth after beating Borussia Dortmund 5-1 on Sunday and needed a stoppage-time goal from Deniz Undav to earn a 2-2 draw at Wolfsburg.

Jonas Wind gave Wolves the lead after ten minutes, but the visitors equalized late in the first half when Enzo Millot grabbed a rebound after his penalty was saved.

Midway through the second half, Stuttgart found themselves on the wrong side of the ball, with Atakan Karazor sending out a second yellow card out of the park even though it looked like he was the victim of a foul.

Wolfsburg took the lead five minutes later through Mohammed Amoura, who escaped a sending-off thanks to a VAR review. Undav's late goal saved his team from a tough defeat.

St. Pauli won its first game in the top flight since February 2011 with a 3-0 win over loss-making and hapless Freiburg.

A brace from Elias Saad and a goal from Dapo Afolayan led St. Pauli to victory, with Freiburg having two goals ruled out for offside alongside a penalty save from Vincenzo Grifo.

Tomas Cvancara's goal in the sixth minute of added time gave Borussia Mönchengladbach a 1-0 home win over Union Berlin, ending their unbeaten league record this season.

Goals from Marvin Pieringer and Jan Schoeppner led Heidenheim to a 2-0 win at 10-man Mainz.
