Kyle Shanahan confirms Brandon Aiyuk's season-ending ACL and MCL tear

The San Francisco 49ers will be without one of their best wide receivers for the remainder of the 2024 season. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed his initial injury update on Brandon Aiyuk during his press conference on Monday, stating the wideout suffered a torn ACL and ACL in the team's Week 7 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“I talked to him last night and called him at his house,” Shanahan said. “I didn't see him today but he was in pain and just out of it, just as you would expect. But BA is a strong guy and a spiritual guy, and he believes that everything happens.” One reason. So he'll be fine, but he was definitely a little depressed last night.

Aiyuk was injured on a 15-yard reception in the final minute of the second quarter of Sunday's game when he hauled in the pass and went down with some Chiefs defenders. After the game he was able to leave the field, but was carried off the field shortly afterwards and was no longer used.

The fifth-year pro was the 49ers receiving yards leader each of the last two seasons, eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark and scoring seven or more receiving touchdowns in each of those seasons. Through the first seven games of the 2024 season, Aiyuk has recorded 25 catches for 374 yards, including a season-long 53-yard completion against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4.

Aiyuk was the 49ers' first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and signed a four-year extension in August of this year that will keep him in the Bay through the 2028 season.
