She has donated millions to a group that supports Harris, according to three sources familiar with the donations, the New York Times reported.
In addition, she played a crucial, albeit discreet, role in facilitating Biden's exit from the race, paving the way for Harris' candidacy.

Powell, 60, was born in New Jersey and has invested in many media outlets, including ownership of The Atlantic and a stake in Axios. In 2017, she acquired a 20 percent stake in Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which operates NBA and NHL teams.
She met Steve Jobs in 1989 during a lecture at Stanford Business School and they married in 1991.
After Jobs' death in 2011, Powell inherited the Steven P. Jobs Trust, which held significant stakes in Apple and Disney. Since then, she has been actively involved in philanthropy and impact investing.

Powell donated $500 to Harris' first campaign for San Francisco district attorney in 2003.
“She was a great help at the beginning of Kamala’s career,” said Andrea Dew Steele, organizer of a program attended by the two heads of state.
In addition, in 2017, Powell agreed to a rare interview on stage at a technology conference, to which she invited Harris, making the interview a two-for-one event, the NYT reported.
When asked if she would run for president, Powell said, pointing to Kamala, “Well, one of us should,” adding, “I'm voting for her.”
After Biden's poor performance against Donald Trump in the June debate, Powell expressed her concerns about Biden's electability to other prominent Democratic donors.
Her top adviser, David Simas, a former Obama staffer who led her political research, shared focus group and polling data with other donors that painted a bleak outlook. Many donors pointed to Simas' research as playing a key role in motivating them to oppose Biden.
