LeBron James makes NBA history in Grizzlies vs. Lakers

LeBron James makes NBA history in Grizzlies vs. Lakers

The Memphis Grizzlies and Los Angeles Lakers kicked things off on Wednesday with a highly anticipated matchup between star point guard Ja Morant and future Hall of Famer LeBron James. The Grizzlies and Lakers have had some great matchups in recent years, including their first-round playoff series in 2023.

This Western Conference battle in Memphis is already big because of the seeding, but it just got even more significant. James reached a major milestone. James made NBA history in this game and became only the sixth player in NBA history to play 1,500 regular season games. He joins legends Robert Parish, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Vince Carter, Dirk Nowitzki and John Stockton on the exclusive list.

Via NBA: “Congratulations to @KingJames of the @Lakers on becoming the sixth player in NBA history to reach the 1,500 GAMES mark!”

Including the postseason, James has played in 1,787 games, tied for the third-most games ever. This regular season performance proves his incredible longevity, which is even more amazing considering he is still playing at the highest level.

The 39-year-old superstar is in his 22nd NBA season and is looking to make his 21st consecutive All-Star appearance this year. In seven games this season, LeBron averaged 21.9 points, 6.9 rebounds and 7.7 assists with a career-low 15.9 field goal attempts per game.

James' volume has dropped this season, but many have not been fooled as his on-field production is still at the top of the league. If James doesn't miss much time this season, he will pass Kareem for second place on the NBA's all-time regular season games played list and pass Robert Parish for first place next year.

The Grizzlies will certainly want to spoil James' historic night in Memphis and try to get back in the win column and get over .500 this season.
