Live Updates: 2024 General Election in Carson City

Editor's Note: This webpage will be updated until election results are final.

Last updated: Wednesday, 7:10 a.m. with statewide results. Carson City's results were updated Tuesday at 11:15 p.m. See below

According to Recorder Scott Hoen, as of 11:10 p.m. Tuesday, there were an estimated 3,000 outstanding absentee ballots, including about 1,000 ballots received on Nov. 4 and about 2,000 received through drop boxes and in the mail on Election Day.

Hoen estimated that 1,200 to 1,500 original, uncorrected ballots would be counted on Saturday, the last day that mail-in ballots can be received at the office.

Hoen said the updated results would be available at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, with further updates coming in the following days. He estimated that about 2,500 people voted in person on Election Day and said voters who registered the same day saw long lines.

Preliminary results show voters rejected both city road funding issues — a proposed sales tax increase and a state services tax collected from the DMV — by double-digit margins.

Clear winners Tuesday night included unopposed candidates Maurice White for Board of Supervisors District 2, Judge Tom Armstrong for Judicial and Municipal Court Division 1 and Rebecca Roberts, candidate for School Board District 2 trustee.

In the race for the school board seat, Michelle Pedersen, candidate for District 7 trustee, appeared to secure the seat with 60.95 percent of the vote Tuesday. Incumbent District 5 Trustee Mike Walker was also ahead with 60.05 percent of the vote.

Rep. PK O'Neill also won re-election representing District 40 in the Nevada Assembly.

The Carson City mayoral race and the Supervisor Ward 4 race were too close to decide with the vote count still pending. The race for the position of judge at the District Court 1st Judicial District Division 2 was also too close.

As of October 1, there were 39,275 active voters in Carson City.

On the national level: Trump was reinstated as president

Donald Trump was elected the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, an extraordinary comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago, sparked a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, was convicted of crimes and survived two assassination attempts .

With a victory in Wisconsin, Trump secured the 270 electoral votes needed for the presidency, according to the Associated Press
