Thousands of people gathered around the world on Saturday to support the people of Gaza ahead of the first anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks.

Israeli authorities said demonstrations were held in Paris, Manila, Cape Town and other major cities ahead of the anniversary of the Hamas attacks that killed around 1,200 people in Israel. Israel's subsequent war in Gaza killed more than 40,000 Palestinians in the months that followed, according to the health ministry in the enclave.

“Despite all our goodwill, unfortunately the Israeli government takes no notice and continues its atrocities in Gaza, now also in Lebanon and Yemen and now probably in Iran,” said Agmes Koury, a protester in Londontold Reuters while holding a sign that read: “This Holocaust survivor says: Stop the genocide in Gaza.”

Rim Boughanmi, a Tunisian protester who joined Saturday's march RomeHe told Reuters: “We came here to say no to war, to say no to the genocide in Gaza, Lebanon and Yemen, no more war and no more support from the Italian state.”

“I am here to support the Palestinian people, especially the children and women who are abused and bombed every day. It cannot be right that we sit back and watch what Netanyahu does. Enough: Palestine belongs to the Palestinian people, not to the Israelis,” protester Nikewe Jentu told AFP Cape Town.

In DublinHundreds of demonstrators marched, chanting: “Ceasefire now!” and “Free, free, Palestine!”

In Israel: The Forum for Hostages and Missing Families said Thursday that it would not hold its weekly rallies on Saturday in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem due to the “security situation” in the region. But dozens of rallies are also expected to take place in other places today.
