Longtime Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin admits she was “emotional” when she saw Harris' final message

Alyssa Farah Griffin has long been a Republican and remains one today, but on Wednesday's episode of “The View,” the ABC host admitted that she became “emotional” when she heard Kamala Harris' final message to voters .

On Tuesday evening, Harris spoke at the Ellipse – the same place where Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to march on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, to try to stop the certification of the election he pretty much lost.

During her speech, Harris called on voters to reject Trump again and promised to be a president for all Americans, including those who don't vote for her. And it was this message of unity and promise to work across the aisle that set Farah Griffin apart.

“Those comments hit me last night, I have to say,” she said in the first paragraph of the day. “I felt a little emotional watching them because the last time we saw a major national figure speak from the Ellipse, outside the White House, was Donald Trump on January 6th.”

The host still remembered the day clearly, recalling that she was with her in-laws and had already resigned from her post in the Trump administration. Farah Griffin shared that she was particularly appalled that Trump called his Vice President Mike Pence at the time.

“I just had a sinking feeling in my stomach and thought, 'You've just put him in so much danger.' “There are a lot of people there who are ready to march because you told them to,” she said. “Those images of standing and reclaiming that space – and also the depiction of a woman in front of the White House looking like a president – I think was incredibly powerful… the message resonated with me.”

Farah Griffin noted that Trump is doing nothing at this point to appeal to voters who, like herself, could have supported Nikki Haley (mostly women), adding that he is merely “spewing out lies” and “invoking another January 6th.” “. .”

“And I hope people remember that,” she warned.

“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
