LSU Tigers top lineman injured in 1st quarter against UCLA Bruins

LSU Tigers top lineman injured in 1st quarter against UCLA Bruins

Early in the game between the UCLA Bruins and the LSU Tigers, LSU right tackle Emery Jones, Jr. suffered an ankle injury. He left the game at that point and did not return until halftime.

Brett Martel, a sportswriter for the Associated Press based in New Orleans, reported: “Jones Jr. appeared to have injured his left leg and appeared angry as he limped along the sideline and into the injury tent.”

Inside the tent, Jones' ankle was taped and then re-taped after a stability check. About an hour before halftime, Martel saw “Jones come out of the tent and do some pass blocking drills, apparently with the intent of staying in the game.”

He only returned to the field in the second half. Jones missed one game last season due to an ankle injury.

LSU's offensive line was rated the third best in college football by PFF, with what they call the best tackle duo of Will Campbell and Jones. Both were in the top 10, with Jones finishing as the ninth-best tackle. He had allowed just two pressures in three games and none in the last two.

So far, UCLA's pass rush hasn't put much pressure on quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, and hasn't sacked him once. Jacob Busic is the Bruin who lines up primarily on the right side. Devin Aupiu also moves to that side.
