Maurice signs a multi-year contract to remain Panthers coach

Paul Maurice signed a multi-year contract as coach of the Florida Panthers on Tuesday.

The 57-year-old is 98-58-15 since being named coach of the Panthers on June 22, 2022.

In his two full seasons with the Panthers, Maurice has led them to the Stanley Cup Finals, last year defeating the Edmonton Oilers in seven games to win their first championship after losing to the Vegas Golden Knights in five games in 2023 . Maurice helped the Panthers win an Atlantic Division title last season (52-24-6). Their 110 points were the second-highest point total in team history (122 points in the 2021-22 season).

“Paul has been determined to lead our organization to unprecedented success during his relatively short tenure in South Florida,” said Panthers General Manager Bill Zito. “He is an excellent communicator and leader for our staff and players and has a strong strategic mind for the game. We are pleased that Paul and his staff will continue to keep the Florida Panthers as a destination franchise for the foreseeable future.”

Maurice had coached 1,985 games – 1,848 in the regular season and 137 in the Stanley Cup Playoffs – the most by a coach in NHL history without winning the Cup.

During his 27 seasons with the Panthers, Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers, Maurice is 873-738-145 with 99 draws. He ranks second in regular season games coached (1,855), trails Scotty Bowman (2,141), is fourth in wins and is 70-67 in the playoffs.

The Panthers (4-2-1) host the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday (6:30 p.m. ET; FDSNNO, FDSNWI, SCRIPPS).
