MBTA Closings on the Red and Green Lines in November: What You Should Know

November is here and with the new month comes new MBTA closures.

The recent closures on the T are part of the system's new track improvement program, which aims to replace tracks, ease speed restrictions and improve amenities such as new lighting, paint, tiling and pressure washing.

This month, as part of the track improvement program, both the Red and Green Lines will be closed between selected stations for various periods. In most cases, free and accessible shuttle buses will replace trains.

When will the Red Line close in November?

The MBTA's Red Line will close between select stations this month on the following dates:

  • 5th–10th November: between Broadway and North Quincy
  • 9th–10th November: between Broadway and Ashmont
  • 18–24 November: between Harvard and Broadway

Free shuttles replace Red Line trains to all stops except Park Street and Downtown Crossing. MBTA recommends using other lines or the Winter Street station concourse to travel between the two stations.

When will the Green Line close in November?

The T Line will close this month on the Green Line at the following dates and stations:

  • 9th–10th November: between Riverside and Kenmore
  • 11th–17th November: between Union Square and Lechmere
  • November 15th from 8:45 p.m. to November 17th: East Somerville, between Park Street and Union Square

Shuttle buses will replace trains to all Green Line stops except Union Square and between North Station and Park Street. Riders are advised to use the Orange Line or area bus routes instead, including routes 86 and 91 between Union Square and East Somerville Station on the Medford Branch.
