Michael Keaton, Mel Brooks and the late actress Teri Garr

Teri Garr spent half a century in Hollywood, starring in memorable projects like Young Frankenstein, Tootsie, Mr. MomAnd FriendsSo it's no surprise that her death at the age of 79 was met with heartfelt tributes from friends, fans and collaborators, including Michael Keaton, Mel Brooks and Lisa Kudrow.

Keaton, who starred opposite Garr in the comedy film Mr. Mom in 1983, was one of the first to speak out after it was announced Tuesday that she had died of multiple sclerosis.

“This is a day I feared and knew would come,” Keaton wrote on Instagram. “Forget how great an actress and comedian she was. She was a wonderful woman. Not only was she great to work with, but she was great to be with. AND take another look at her comedic work – man, was she great!! RIP, girl.”

Brooks ushering Garr in Young FrankensteinShe wrote on social media: “I am very sorry to hear of the passing of Teri Garr. She was so talented and so funny. Her humor and lively spirit made working on the YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN set a pleasure. Her 'German' accent fascinated us all.” Stitches! She will be greatly missed.”

In a statement about it Weekly entertainment, Friends Star Kudrow said of the actress who played Phoebe Abbott, the mother of her characters Phoebe and Ursula Buffay: “Teri Garr was a comedic acting genius who had and continues to have a huge influence on me and I know I'm not alone. “I am so happy and grateful that I get to work with Teri Garr.

Dustin Hoffman said about him Tootsie Costar in a statement to EW: “Teri was brilliant and unique in everything she did and had a heart of gold. Working with her was one of the biggest highlights. There was no one like her.”

David Letterman, who welcomed Garr to his late-night talk show several times, remembered her fondly.

“Teri Garr's many appearances Late at night gave him a cachet and meaning that wouldn't be possible without her,” he wrote on Instagram alongside a clip of her sitting down with him after receiving an Oscar nomination Tootsie. “She was a first-class actress and comedian and a lovely human being. A shining star and a true friend of the series. I was lucky to know her. She elevated everything and I’m sad she’s gone.”

Steve Martin kept it sweet and simple: “I loved her so much.”

Michael McKean, who appeared with Garr in the 1999 film Kill the manShe wrote, “I will always love Teri Garr.”

Jamie Lee Curtis shared a snap of Garr Young Frankenstein and wrote: “Peace in the laughter, TERI GARR!”

Fellow actress Marilu Henner noted that Garr had long been someone she looked up to. “Teri Garr has always been my idol,” she wrote on social media. “When she played alongside my first husband, Frederic Forrest One from the heartI was impressed by her dramatic abilities, her comedic ease and her big heart! Every time I saw her, no matter how difficult it was, she was always a blast!”

Former Saturday Night Live Cast member Joe Piscopo praised Garr as “a talented and wonderful girl.” In a 1983 sketch, he included a photo of the two playing JFK and Marilyn Monroe.

Meanwhile, director Paul Feig called Garr's death “devastating.”

“Teri was a legend,” he continued. “So funny, so beautiful, so nice. I had the honor of working with her in 2006 and she was everything I dreamed she would be. Truly one of my comedy heroes. I couldn't have loved her more. That's just how it is. “Loss.”
