MLB World Series 2024: Yankees 11-4 Dodgers – Hosts keep hopes alive

The New York Yankees kept their World Series hopes alive, fueled by Anthony Volpe's third-inning grand slam at Yankee Stadium, posting an 11-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers to take the best-of-seven series lead with 3:3. 1.

Although the Yankees avoided a 4-0 deficit, they must make history if they want to defeat the Dodgers, as no team has recovered from a 3-0 deficit to win a World Series.

That victory appeared to be in sight in the first inning when the in-form Freddie Freeman – who hit a home run in every game of this series – fired another two-run shot to right field in a replay scenario from Game Three.

The Yankees tried to hit right back when Gleyber Torres lifted a fly ball over the right field foul line. Mookie Betts made a clean catch in front of the wall, but a Yankees supporter tried to pull the ball out of Betts' glove – and Torres was ejected for fan interference.

After a series of injuries to their starting lineup, the Dodgers opted for a “bullpen game.”, external with the pitching workload split between multiple relievers.

And early on it looked like the same old story for the Yankees, whose batters had previously struggled with runners in scoring position.

In the second inning, they had men on second and third with just one out, but managed just one run, driven in by Alex Verdugo.

However, Volpe lit up the Bronx with his two-out grand slam from left center field to give the hosts a 5-2 lead.

The Dodgers came back when Will Smith's solo home run and another run from Freeman cut the deficit to 5-4, but Austin Wells extended the Yankees' lead with a home run in the sixth and the floodgates opened in the eighth.

Volpe sprinted home with an infield hit before Torres launched a three-run home run and even the struggling Aaron Judge drove in a run to ensure the teams return to Yankee Stadium for Game 5 on Wednesday.
