A scoring error that occurred in the Golden State Warriors' season-opening win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday was corrected a day after the game.

The NBA announced Thursday that De'Anthony Melton was credited with an extra point and the final score of the game was changed to a 140-104 win for the Warriors due to an incorrect missed free throw late in the third quarter.

Yahoo Sports' Jack Baer noted that it was “unusual” for the NBA to announce an error and change the final result in part because it could be due to misapplication of the official rules of the game.

If this game had been close and the Warriors had lost, they could have made a protest that would have allowed part of the game to be replayed.

Luckily, the Warriors had no problems taking care of business against the Blazers. They outscored Portland 79-51 between the second and third quarters to open the game.

The score was 91-67 when Melton went to charity with 2:00 left in the third quarter.

Melton scored 11 points in 19 minutes after the score was over. This marked the fourth time in Warriors franchise history that they scored at least 140 points in a season opener. The last time this happened was at the start of the 1990-91 season, when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 162-158.
