New MLS franchise San Diego FC is targeting Mo Salah as a new signing

Mo Salah has been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League for some time, but it appears an ambitious team has now launched a bid to lure the Liverpool striker away from European football.

The Egyptian's future has been the subject of countless discussions in recent months, with his current contract at Anfield expiring next June and there being little to no apparent progress towards a contract extension.

The prospect of the 32-year-old moving away from Merseyside is becoming increasingly real and he is now being targeted as part of an eye-catching new project.

Salah is wanted by San Diego FC

According to TBR Football's Graeme Bailey, Salah is considered a potential signing for San Diego FC – the newest franchise in Major League Soccer – ahead of their debut season in the division in 2025.

The £500 million franchise is the most expensive in MLS history and is owned by British-Egyptian businessman Sir Mohamed Mansour, who is reportedly prepared to spend big to bring the Liverpool star and Kevin De Bruyne to California next year to lure.

The young club have already shown a sign of their ambition by securing a contract with former Napoli winger Hirving Lozano, who joins from PSV Eindhoven in January.

San Diego would be a big risk for Salah

Could Salah turn down the Saudi Pro League next year for San Diego FC's hugely ambitious project?

The prospect of relocating his family to the sunny climes of California cannot be dismissed, with Steven Gerrard making a similar move when he left Liverpool for the LA Galaxy in 2015 and the overall level of MLS in recent years As a result, the number has increased enormously, including the arrival of big names like Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez.

However, it would still be quite a gamble for the Egyptian king to swap the Reds for a club that, despite all the wealth at his disposal and the grandeur of his ambitions, has yet to play a competitive game.

We have no doubt that San Diego FC has the potential to go straight to the top of MLS and stay there, especially if Mansour assembles a star-studded squad, but the inescapable truth is that it is a project that is in the making Uncertain advances.

Based on the form he is showing for Liverpool so far this season, Salah still has plenty to offer at the highest level in Europe and Anfield chiefs should not hesitate to keep him here for a while longer rather than one of the clubs The greatest strikers of all time are sneaking out the back door on a free transfer in 2025.
