New on Apple TV Plus in November 2024 – all films and series to watch

Scary season may be over, but Apple TV Plus still has some fresh original shows to tide us over during these colder months.

New seasons of some of Apple TV Plus' best shows are arriving this month, including the highly anticipated second season for both Apple's award-winning dark comedy series “Bad Sisters” and the dystopian sci-fi drama “Silo.” There's also a new war drama from “12 Years a Slave” director Steve McQueen, set during the bombing of London in World War II. Or if you're more in the mood for a documentary, “Bread & Roses,” a favorite of the Cannes Film Festival, is about the plight of Afghan women fighting back against their oppressive new norm.

Everyone's favorite family is back with the second season of the BAFTA award-winning black comedy Bad Sisters. Two years after the “accidental death” of Grace's abusive husband, the strict Garvey sisters may have moved on, but trouble has a way of finding them. When old secrets come to light, the ladies are targeted again. With suspicion higher than ever, the sisters are forced to band together once again to find out who they can truly trust. The first season received a rare 100% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its stellar cast, likeable characters and memorable gallows humor. The second season is almost guaranteed to be a hit as fans have been eagerly waiting to see what ill-advised plans the Garvey clan will hatch this time.

“Silo” ranks alongside “Severance” and “For All Mankind” as one of the best Apple TV Plus shows to watch, and now we finally learn more about the dystopian sci-fi world. For the uninitiated, the show follows the plight of the last 10,000 people on Earth, holed up in a mysterious, labyrinthine underground complex for which the series is named. No one knows when or why the silo was built, and anyone who dares to ask questions risks banishment, a veritable death sentence in the toxic and uninhabitable outside world. While the Silo's newest sheriff, Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson), uncovered some of its secrets in the first season, the next outing promises to shed some light on the secrets of the outside world and, like the first season, explore the hellscape of the Last Bastion of humanity.

If you're in the mood for a war drama, Steve McQueen's “Blitz” paints a heartbreaking picture of the dangers faced by Londoners during the German flash-bombing raids in World War II. Saoirse Ronan plays Rita Hanway, a London factory worker who, like many parents at the time, is torn by the decision to send her 9-year-old son George (Elliott Heffernan) to the safety of the English countryside. Embittered by the turmoil and determined to return to his mother and grandfather (Paul Weller), he makes his way back to East London at the first opportunity. Along the way, he stumbles from one nightmare to the next as his desperate mother searches for him and finds a new sense of community at home.

After an impressive performance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, this documentary from Sahri Mani, director of A Thousand Girls Like Me, arrives on Apple TV Plus this month. Produced by Jennifer Lawrence and Malala Yousafzai, “Bread & Roses” examines the plight of women in Afghanistan following the U.S. withdrawal from the region in 2021 and the fall of Kabul to the Taliban. It follows three courageous Afghan women in real time as they fight to regain the autonomy they have gained over the past decades. Mani's raw portrayal of her harrowing plight and her struggle to escape her oppressive new norm captures the spirit and resilience of Afghan women.
