The Seattle Seahawks (4-4) are 1-4 in their last five games and just 1-3 overall against the NFC. This makes their home game in Week 9 against the Los Angeles Rams (3-4) all the more important. If you win, you'll be no worse than tied for first in the NFC West, and dreams of a return to the playoffs are still very much alive. If you lose, you'll be in last place and go into the bye with several unfavorable tiebreakers.

The Seahawks don't have DK Metcalf or Noah Fant available, which is bad news for an already limited passing offense that lacks downfield passing options. Puka Nacua is expected to play despite re-injuring his knee earlier in the week.

1st quarter summary

The Seahawks started on offense and got some first downs thanks to Kenneth Walker III getting involved early and often. He even converted on 4th-and-1 to extend Seattle's opening drive. Connor Williams was hit hard for a sack on Geno Smith, ending the drive in Rams territory. Curiously, Seattle struck from the Rams' 40-yard line instead of making a 57-yard field goal.

Matthew Stafford had his first possession of the game, backed up from his own 11. He completed his first pass to Cooper Kupp and missed Kupp on the next throw. His next throw was incomplete for Damarcus Robinson, so a three-pointer!

Geno Smith lost sight of the ball on a bad snap that cost Seattle 21 yards. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had a 22-yard catch-and-run on a screen to make it third-and-manageable, only for JSN to drop a ball that went into the arms of Jaylen McCollough, who intercepted it.

Seattle's defense remained solid, allowing only one first down to Damarcus Robinson. A holding penalty against the Rams took them out of field goal range and they opted to punt from the Seattle 38.
