NHL celebrates grand return to Des Moines

DES MOINES, Iowa – Wells Fargo Arena welcomed the Saint Louis Blues and Utah Hockey Club to kick off the Iowa hockey season.

The puck dropped at 6 p.m. on Sunday and fans couldn't be happier.

“I think it's great. It helps the economy here and it's so exciting to see the Des Moines and Iowa fans here to celebrate. It's nice that it's here this year. I'm really excited, it's a good atmosphere, it's really fun,” said Dominic Jimerson.

If you didn't make it to Sunday's game, don't worry, there's still plenty of hockey to go. Come to Wells Fargo on October 12th for the season opener.

Local fan Emma says she is thrilled that hockey is back, she is ready for the Iowa Wild and hopes the Detroit Red Wings will play in Des Moines.

The Blues fans were in full force at the stadium and the Utah fans, despite being smaller in number, were full of cheers. In total, 8,851 people came to welcome the return of hockey to Wells Fargo.

No matter what team you play, the stadium agrees. We need more hockey, we need more NHL.
