Nick Saban takes massive shot at former NFL HC Pete Carroll

Former Alabama head coach and current analyst Nick Saban is having the time of his life on ESPN's College GameDay. Whether it's changing his tie to appease Cal football fans or cracking jokes with Cal legend and NFL All-Pro running back Marshawn Lynch.

On Saturday, the ESPN College Football GameDay team was at Cal Berkeley and, as always, the show was packed. Berkeley was full of fun and jubilation, and Saban, usually stoic, was the exact opposite this morning.

Lynch was a guest player at College GameDay and he and Saban decided to have some fun. The Golden Bear legend was at the Cal vs. Miami game to pick tips for today's slate.

The 72-year-old coach teased Lynch about the Seahawks' pass at the 1-yard line in Super Bowl 49. Saban had a bit of a flip at Lynch's expense with former Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll's infamous decision to pass the ball instead I'm running it with Lynch.

“Marshawn, we may disagree on our picks today, but I'm telling you, man, on 4th-and-1 in the Super Bowl, I'm giving you the ball,” Saban told Lynch on “College GameDay.” ” discontinued, according to ESPN.

As we all know, that pass play at the 1-yard line led to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots winning on Malcolm Butler's interception. This play is now one of the most influential plays in NFL Super Bowl history.

Lynch recently shared his thoughts on the piece in an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast.

“To be honest, I looked at nine of the other guys and they looked at me and said, 'What the hell just happened?'” Lynch said, recalling that Wilson criticized the coaches' decision to throw the ball from the 1-1. Pass yard line had passed with a deficit of 28-24 with 26 seconds left. “Man, the look on all my teammates’ faces in the huddle spoke volumes. … When it started, (I thought), 'What the hell did he just shout?' ?' You just hear all the cheering from the other sideline.”

This piece will forever be associated with Lynch and infamy.

Nonetheless, we're soon approaching the 10th anniversary, but it's nice to know Lybch can joke about it. It's even funnier when you consider that Saban is pranking this play and Carroll.
