FIRST DAY

UNITED STATES TEAM

Hicks birdied Bradley on No. 18 to win the match and win the Internationals: “Keegan Bradley with the final dagger on a dominant day for the Americans. Nobody loves this theater more than Keegan Bradley.”

Chamblee continues Live from on Schauffele: “The man of the day was Xander Schauffele… they left the 16thTh bound green. At this point the games were all so close and things could go either way. We found out why this guy has reached a new level of clutch. You don't win two majors in a year without going big… (his win) tells the rest of the team, 'We did it.'”

Wagner continues Live from on Bradley: “He's known as a great driver, but today he did it with his putter… on the back nine he almost single-handedly won this match.” He said he wouldn't select himself (for the Ryder Cup). , if he were outside the top six, but these players could make him self-select if he keeps playing like this.”

Faxon over Schauffele hits the shot on No. 18 from four feet away: “That’s why he won two majors this year. Shots like this when the pressure is at its highest. How about the last two holes he played after missing the short putt on No. 16? I have to pull myself together, hit it close on No. 17 and make the putt.”

Mackay: “You can't say enough about Xander Schauffele in the last 30 minutes. If that putt goes in at the end, he’ll have made five perfect shots to end this game.”

Byrum on Scheffler yelling at Tom Kim after he responded with a birdie on No. 7: “Woah! Scheffler also shows some emotions. He and Tom are really good friends…he said he wanted Scheffler and wanted to take him out. He absolutely spoke to Tom Kim.”

Faxon on Kim/I'm going to 9Th Hole, Scheffler still has to putt: “That was bulletin board material. Deputy Captain Kevin Kisner Afterwards he texted me and said he had told the assistant captain of the international team Camilo Villegas'If you do that, then it starts.'”

Faxon on the conversation between Villegas and Kisner after the game: “I don’t think Kiz wants to know anything about what Camilo is telling him.”

Faxon: “The birdies on the American side just make it so quiet out there.”

Wood on Henley: “In his very first team game, Russell Henley shagged numbers 14 and 15 to take them to 3rd. An incredibly thrilling performance from Russell Henley in his first match.”

Wood on the Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley pairing: “I love the order they play in, with Scheffler first. As this is (Henley's) first team event there must be some nerves but he hasn't shown it yet. When you have the best player in the world on the fairway in front of you on every hole, that has to give you a little freedom.”

INTERNATIONAL TEAM

McGinley: “The last nine would be important. Americans would continue to play the good golf, They had the wind in their sails and the question was: Can the Internationals keep up and compete with them? And the answer so far has been “no”...you have to give credit. The internationals did their best, but the Americans seemed to have an answer to every question they were asked.”

McGinley: “This audience today has never really gotten into it. They never really had much to do to get loud and create a hostile environment.”

Faxon: “A nightmare start.”

McGinley: “You just missed every important putt.”

Hicks on Bezuidenhout's birdie miss on No. 17: “Three misses from the same distance from Bezuidenhout. They were all huge. Not one (goes in).”

McGinley on An/Day both missed the green on No. 17 and lost the hole and ultimately the match against Schauffele/Finau: “You had the advantage, you had the honor, and you just completely opened the door… you have to put pressure on your opponent in match play, he didn't and he paid the price.”

Wood on the Tom Kim/Sungjae pairing. I'm going to 9Th Hole with Scottie Scheffler still having to putt: “Kim and I left. You have reached the 9Th tee box and made sure to go. They are 60 meters away and not watching. It’s definitely getting a little tricky at the moment.”

McGinley on the Tom Kim/Sungjae pairing. I'm going to 9Th Hole where Scottie Scheffler still has to putt: “Wow. That borders on bad behavior. That's disrespectful in my opinion… I firmly believe that you don't want to give your opponent energy, put pressure on his shoulder and give him the moral high ground. Your behavior was consistent not moral superiority. They didn’t give their opponent’s putt the respect it deserved. That’s not a good psychological position for the Internationals.”

Wood: “When Kim and I left the 8thTh green, it looked like Villegas had instigated it. He said let's go and they went there. After this hole, Kevin Kisner is the American vice-captain of this group and it looked like he and Camilo exchanged a few words. I couldn’t understand what was being said, but to be honest it didn’t seem particularly friendly.”
