Olivia Rodrigo reflects on the “terrifying” moment she fell through a hole on stage

Published on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon On Tuesday, October 29, host Jimmy Fallon spoke about the mishap before playing a clip of the 21-year-old singer falling into a hole on stage during a performance in Melbourne, Australia, earlier this month.

“Oh my god, that was fun! I'm fine,” Rodrigo said jokingly in the video as she climbed out of the hole to continue with the concert. “Wow, sometimes there’s just a hole on the stage.”

After laughing about the flashback on the talk show, Rodrigo recalled that the moment was “really scary.”

“When I watch the video again, it's pretty frightening,” the three-time Grammy winner continued. “I mean the show must go on, this is showbiz, baby.”

She added: “It was a really beautiful thing and looking back I'm really glad it happened.” I had just been to the Philippines. That was my next stop after the Philippines, Australia.”

“And I thought about my family and my heritage and my relatives, and I fell and I was like completely confused,” said the musician. “And then I went to the hospital. Nothing happened, but they just wanted to make sure I didn’t have a concussion.”

Rodrigo, who is of Filipino descent, then revealed that the nurse happens to be Filipino and has the same name as her grandfather, “who passed away just a few months ago.”

“And so I was like, wow, he was looking out for me,” she added. “I made sure I didn't get injured and so I'm really glad it happened. I think it’s a beautiful story.”

After the incident, Rodrigo posted a clip of the fall on her TikTok with the caption, “#subtleforeshadowing.”

The “So American” singer has ended her 2024 tour dates, but the Guts World Tour will continue in March 2025 as part of Lollapalooza in Argentina, Chile and Brazil before heading to Manchester, England in June.
