San Diego right-hander Joe Musgrove left the Padres' National League wild-card series game against the visiting Atlanta Braves on Wednesday with what the team described as tightness in his right elbow.

He will undergo an MRI scan on Thursday.

San Diego had a 5-1 lead when Musgrove exited after 3 2/3 innings. He posted four strikeouts and gave up one run on one hit and no walks.

The Padres were able to win the game 5-4 and eliminate Atlanta in two games.

After the game, Musgrove sounded like they were worried about the injury.

“I don't know what the future holds for me right now, but I know I will give every chance and do everything I can to get back here at some point,” Musgrove said.

Musgrove threw a curveball to Atlanta's Matt Olson for strike on his 44th and final pitch of the night. As he prepared to throw his next pitch, Musgrove extended his arm upward and later shook his right arm. As Musgrove put his arms up again, catcher Kyle Higashioka charged to the mound.

Pitching coach Ruben Niebla went to the mound and a short time later, manager Mike Shildt and a trainer rushed out. After a brief discussion, Musgrove left the competition.

Musgrove, 31, has been on the injured list twice this season due to elbow problems. The second time, he was diagnosed with a bone spur in his elbow, missed two and a half months, and returned on August 12.

Musgrove went 6-5 with a 3.88 ERA in 19 regular season starts.
