Penn State football loses another running back. See who is “out” against Wisconsin

The Penn State football running back situation is starting to get precarious.

The No. 3 Nittany Lions (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten), already without injured top backup Cam Wallace, will now also be without his replacement, true freshman Quinton Martin, for tonight's difficult test in the Camp Randall stadium in Wisconsin.

Wallace and Martin, who back up co-starters Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, were listed as “out” in tonight's Big Ten weekly pregame availability report. Additionally, Singleton's health may still be in question. Although not listed in the report, he missed the UCLA game due to an undisclosed injury and was limited to 26 yards on 10 carries two weeks ago at USC.

The Lions' next candidate at running back? Likely true freshman Corey Smith, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who hasn't carried the ball yet this season.

Martin was the only significant addition to Penn State's injury report. Although he has only completed eight carries for 25 yards, he is considered a potential future star.

The Lions will still be missing several key players due to long-term injuries, including All-America safety KJ Winston and backup tight end Andrew Rappleyea.

PSU will also be without junior receiver and punt returner Kaden Saunders, who is out for the third straight game with an unspecified injury. Penn State should once again return punts with backup cornerback Zion Tracy.
