Players look forward to the first home game of the Utah Hockey Club

SALT LAKE CITY – It may only be the preseason and may not count for the standings, but when it comes to making history, Monday's hockey game at the Delta Center couldn't be bigger.

For the first time, the Utah Hockey Club will play at home, in front of a fan base that has been waiting for the puck to drop since the team moved to the Wasatch Front in spring.

The game against the Los Angeles Kings to be seen on Utah 16.

“I think it's cool for us,” forward Dylan Guenther said. “It's cool for the players, it's cool for the fans and it's going to give hockey a boost in the state, so I think that's pretty cool too.”

“Our first opportunity to show ourselves to our fans and our hometown, so it's great,” added defenseman Mikhail Sergachev, who won two consecutive Stanley Cup titles with Tampa Bay before being traded to Utah in June.

Last night, in Des Moines of all places, The team achieved its first victory with a 5-3 win over St. Louis.

“A few of us saw the game and jumped into the live stream,” said center Barrett Hayton. “It's great to watch the guys play and get a feel for being back in the real games.”

As much fun as Sunday was, Monday's game promises to be even better.

Weeks after the team arrived in Utah, Thousands of fans were turned away when the club held a simple meet-and-greet at the arena.

“The atmosphere at this meet-and-greet was incredible and we are looking forward to getting out there and feeling that energy,” added Hayton.

It is no surprise to the players of the Utah Hockey Club that the team feels at home in the Salt Lake Valley after just a few months. They felt welcomed by the fans from day one.

“So far everything is going smoothly. The city and the state are very hospitable,” said Guenther. “They are very happy to have us here. Just like us.”

“This town hasn't been great for any of us,” said defense attorney Sean Durzi. “Even myself, just living my day-to-day life, I meet a lot of people who are very welcoming. I went to the farmer's market and people gave me free bottles of honey and just welcomed me in a nice way.”
