Police are closing all lanes of I-65 in Autauga County

AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. (WSFA) – All lanes of Interstate 65 are closed along a stretch of road in Autauga County following a “law enforcement-related incident” Friday afternoon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

ALEA has not released specific details about the situation, but WSFA 12 News viewers report that they witnessed a high-speed chase involving numerous police vehicles and a helicopter.

The situation began around 12:20 p.m., an ALEA spokesman said. All lanes of the highway are closed near the 192 mile marker in Autauga County. This is approximately six miles north of the Pine Level exit or 8 miles south of Verbena.

“Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are currently on scene assisting in managing the situation,” the spokesperson added.

Commuters traveling north will have to take an alternative route to avoid the situation at the 186 mile marker. Those traveling south must exit I-65 at the 200 mile marker.
