“Princess Diaries 3” sets Adele Lim as director

EXCLUSIVE: Adele Lim returns to direct the third installment of the award-winning Disney film Princess diaries franchise.

It is Lim's second time behind the camera, having written Disney's 2021 animated film. Raya and the Last Dragon. Lim made her directorial debut with the raunchy R-rated Asian American comedy from Lionsgate Joyride.

Debra Martin Chase produced Princess Diaries 3. EPs include Lim's producing partner Naia Cucukov and Melissa Stack. Flora Greeson is writing the script.

Disney was launched The Princess Diaries in 2001 and catapulted Anne Hathaway into a box office hit. There was also a 2004 sequel, The Princess Diaries: Royal Engagement. Both also starred Julie Andrews and were directed by the late Garry Marshall. Together, both pictures grossed $300 million. The first film followed Hathaway's Mia Thermopolis learning that she is the heir to the throne of Genovia. She takes her friends Lilly and Michael Moscovitz along for the ride as she tries to navigate her teenage years.

Lim tells us: “As a die-hard fan of the original Princess diariesI'm thrilled to be part of bringing the third installment of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core fairy tales of female power, joy and mentorship to audiences around the world.”

Lim's achievements include working as a writer and producer on television shows such as A tree hill And Deadly weaponHe was also co-showrunner of the CW series Star-crossed.

She wrote Warner Bros.' Blockbuster romantic comedy directed by Jon Chu Crazy rich Asians, The film grossed $174 million in the United States, received Best Picture nominations at the Golden Globes and Producers Guild Awards, and won the Critics Choice Award.

Last year, Lim co-founded the production company 100 Tigers with Naia Cucukov. Cucukov is a former Walden Media executive whose credits include the Netflix series The Babysitters Club And Manhunt. The company's mission is to “promote and empower artists and projects that share our passion for women-focused, cross-cultural stories with global appeal and sparkle.” 100 Tigers has multiple projects in development at various studios including Amazon/MGM, HBO Max and ABC.
