Pueblo girl allegedly kidnapped in carjacking found safe

A 13-year-old girl who was in a truck when it was allegedly stolen in the 1200 block of South Prairie Avenue around 5 p.m. Wednesday, prompting an Amber Alert from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, has been found safe and is at the family, according to Pueblo police.

Sandra Mendoza was reported missing and presumed kidnapped after an unknown man allegedly stole the truck, a Ford F-250, with Mendoza in it around 5 p.m

According to Pueblo police, the stolen vehicle was later recovered in the 1100 block of Cypress Street, but the suspect and Mendoza were not initially located. Police officers posted on X that Mendoza was “likely to be in danger.”

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued an Amber Alert for Mendoza around 8:48 p.m., asking for the public's help in finding her and the suspect, described as a Hispanic male.

Pueblo police announced just before 11 p.m. that Mendoza had been located and was with his family. At the time, they did not say whether the suspect had been found.
