Raiders hire former head coach Norv Turner as offensive consultant: sources

The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring longtime NFL coach Norv Turner as an offensive consultant, league sources confirmed Tuesday.

The move reunites Turner with the franchise after he was head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2004-05. Former Raiders general manager Al Davis fired Turner after he posted a 9-23 record at the helm. Mark Davis, Al's son and the Raiders' general manager, stayed in touch with Turner over the years.

Turner hasn't had an official role in the NFL since serving as the Carolina Panthers' offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2019, but he's been spending time with the Raiders recently. His son, Scott Turner, was hired as passing game coordinator in 2022, and Turner occasionally appeared at practices: He came in Raiders gear last year to watch the Raiders' joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams.

Now Turner is taking on an official role with the organization to try to get the offense back on track after head coach Antonio Pierce fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy last Sunday. Scott Turner is expected to take over as interim offensive coordinator, and his father could provide valuable insight into revitalizing one of the NFL's worst offenses.
