Rams' Cooper Kupp will take a practice to determine Week 7 status

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp will have a workout Monday that will help determine whether he can practice this week and ultimately play against the Las Vegas Raiders, coach Sean McVay said.

Kupp hasn't played since spraining his ankle in Week 2 against the Arizona Cardinals.

“Today will be a big day for people like Cooper Kupp,” McVay said. “We’ll see how he feels. He is making good progress. I’ll have an injury update (Wednesday) on how things are going for him today.”

“There is a possibility he could be ready this week. There is also the possibility that he may not be ready.”

Kupp's training with the coaching staff includes “playful movements” and running routes. McVay said Kupp “knows what it looks like to have his body set up to perform again, not just to play again” and that the Rams “want to be smart about it.”

“But even speaking to him today, he feels good, he’s optimistic,” McVay said. “But he's also very aware of what it looks like to be ready and maybe not quite there yet. So today is going to be a big day.”

In two games this season, Kupp has 18 catches for 147 yards and a touchdown.

McVay said the only other injured player who might be able to return to practice is tackle Joe Noteboom, who “planned a big practice” on Monday that could lead to the Rams beginning their 21-day practice window. Noteboom sprained his ankle in the Rams' season opener.

McVay also confirmed that wide receiver Puka Nacua (PCL sprain) and offensive lineman Steve Avila (MCL sprain) are not expected to return from injured reserve this week.
