Rashee Rice is likely out for the season due to an injury to the Chiefs

So you're saying there's a chance?

Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice is scheduled to undergo knee surgery on Tuesday, according to multiple reports.

The silver lining is that the surgery is to repair Rice's LCL and not a torn ACL as previously feared.

As a result, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Rice is “expected” to miss the remainder of the season, but the recovery time is approximately three months and he should be ready to go in 2025.

“Chiefs WR Rashee Rice is unlikely to play again this season, but doctors won't know for sure until Tuesday morning with surgery,” ESPN's Adam Schefter added.

The statements from both NFL insiders are not enough to immediately declare Rice's season over.

Rice's injury occurred during a friendly game when quarterback Patrick Mahomes collided with Rice as he attempted to make a tackle after throwing an interception in the game against the Chargers last Sunday.

“I didn't realize it at the moment, I was more worried because I was trying to get the ball,” Mahomes told reporters last week. “But obviously I was just trying to make a play and that always happens when you try to make tackles.

“I mean, when I saw the replay, I felt like I met Rashee. I think that's pretty much it – I mean, I wasn't worried about myself. I was hopefully worried about his injury and hoping it wasn't as bad as it looked because I was the one who hit him.”

Rice, the Chiefs' top receiver, had 24 catches for 288 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Off the field, Rice has had legal problems after causing a multi-car collision on a Texas highway during the offseason while racing with a friend at high speed.
