Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid player ratings: Angel Correa stuns Jude Bellingham and Co. with a last-gasp equalizer after crowd problems almost ruined the derby clash

Carlo Ancelotti's side were denied a late draw but this game will be remembered for all the wrong reasons

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid played a draw on Sunday evening. But few will remember the result in the coming months, as fan unrest delayed the game in the second half and ruined what should have been a riveting 1-1 draw.

Eder Militao grabbed the Madrid goal and Los Blancos appeared to have done their job in a hostile derby. But Angel Correa's equalizer in the 99th minute ensured that the spoils were shared. Still, a 21-minute delay due to a small proportion of Atleti fans hurling objects onto the pitch will be the contest's defining moment.

Julian Alvarez came closest early on, forcing Thibaut Courtois into a neat save at his near post. Federico Valverde also almost broke the lead, but failed due to an acrobatic stop from Jan Oblak.

It was an otherwise dreary affair that needed a target to spark something. And Militao made sure of that, shooting the ball into the goal from close range shortly after the hour mark after a clever move and a cross from Vinicius. But just as the game began, it was abruptly interrupted. Some of the Atleti fans threw objects at Courtois – the game was interrupted for over 20 minutes.

After a sluggish restart, things seemed to be heading towards a Madrid win. But Correa saved the situation late on, staying just offside as he ran towards goal before rounding Courtois and firing the ball over the line. There was still time for more drama, however, as Marcos Llorente received a red card with just seconds left for a reckless foul on Fran Garcia that summed up the game's sour mood.
