Route, start time and how to track runners

The 2024 Chicago Marathon is just around the corner. On Sunday, October 13, more than 50,000 runners will gather in Grant Park and run across the city, from Lakeview to Bronzeville. Whether you're taking part in the big race or just cheering on the runners, below is a list of important information you need to know, including start times, the marathon route and the best places to watch.

When does the Chicago Marathon take place?

The 2024 Chicago Marathon will take place on Sunday, October 13th.

What is the Chicago Marathon course?

The marathon begins in Grant Park and heads up to Lakeview before heading back south. The route heads west to the United Center on the Near West Side before heading down to Bronzeville and then back to Grant Park. The full map of the course can be found here Here.

How can I track marathon runners?

Spectators will not have access to the race start and finish areas in Grant Park, but will be able to follow the runners via the official Bank of America Chicago Marathon app, available for iPhones And Android Telephones.

Where is the best place to watch the Chicago Marathon?

The race can be viewed from the streets along the marathon route or from numerous official cheer zones at miles 13, 15 and 26 Community cheer zones. There is also an entry area at Grant Park on the east side of Columbus Drive, but ticket sales will be closed on October 5th.

Which streets will be closed for the Chicago Marathon?
