CHICAGO (WLS) – From gumdrop structures to a yellow chemical suit fashion show and more, the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry is shaping the minds of tomorrow's scientists and engineers.

The museum science fair “Science Works” is back, bringing together young minds and dozens of professional STEM companies and organizations.

Dr. Jessica Chavez is the senior officer for learning and community partnerships at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry.

“At the museum we believe we are here to awaken the inventiveness and genius in everyone. This happens through opportunity, visibility and providing pathways. If you can see it, you can do it,” Chavez said.

Vivian Delacruz is a member of the Society of Women Engineers and hopes to inspire some young ladies to become engineers.

“It is possible to study engineering. “You don’t have to be a prodigy to be an engineer as long as you want to study engineering, are interested in science and are interested in math,” Delacruz said.

It even inspired a group of Girl Scouts from Fellowship Baptist Church.

“I most enjoyed learning how math and robotics work,” said Girl Scout Ta'nyah Chester.

And they made new friends along the way.

“What I liked most about it was the lava lamp and meeting new friends,” said Girl Scout Tiana Pace.

The innovators of the future will find their spark.
