Score, highlights from “SNF” week 4

A possible preview of the AFC Championship Game awaits you on Sunday evening.

Week 4's Sunday Night Football matchup pits the Buffalo Bills against the Baltimore Ravens. Both teams are also off to an interesting start in the 2024 season.

Josh Allen looks as good as Josh Allen has ever looked in the NFL: The Bills passer leads the MVP standings with a 75% completion rate, seven touchdowns and a 133.7 pass rating this season.

The Ravens have not yet had the same offensive success. Lamar Jackson had three touchdown passes in his first three games, coupled with a single rushing touchdown. The Ravens are 1-2 this season and topped Dallas with a win in Week 3, a possible course correction after their 0-2 start.

Week 4 will be a battle of superstar QBs. USA TODAY Sports will provide live updates, highlights and more from the Week 4 “Sunday Night Football” matchup below.

The Bills finally got their first stop when Dorian Williams knocked the ball out of Jackson's hands on a first-and-20 run. Jackson had to fly into the air to avoid a hard low blow and ended up flipping in the air before losing the ball.

The Bills will now get the ball back and try to cut Baltimore's 18-point lead before halftime.

The Ravens forced the Bills into a three-and-out, while Van Noy got into the backfield on a third-and-8 to sack Allen. It's Van Noy's fifth sack in his last three games and gives Baltimore the ball back with a chance to extend its already commanding lead over Buffalo.

With 7:34 left in the second quarter, Henry has already surpassed the 100 rushing yards mark, rushing for 104 and a touchdown on six carries while adding nine yards and a touchdown on two catches.

Henry has now scored six touchdowns in his first 3 1/2 games with the Ravens.

Three drives for the Ravens, three touchdowns. Jackson found Hill coming out of the backfield and opening wide into the end zone as Buffalo's linebackers struggled to contain Hill and Derrick Henry, who combined for three touchdowns.

Justin Tucker makes the extra point and extends Baltimore's lead to 18 points.

“King Henry” returned early in the second quarter and caught a TD pass from Lamar Jackson to give the Ravens a 14-3 lead early in the game.

Henry previously scored the longest touchdown run in Ravens history, an 87-yard run.

It was a back-and-forth, gritty affair in the first quarter, which ended with the Ravens leading the Bills 7-3 after Derrick Henry scored a touchdown.

The Ravens begin the second quarter in danger of scoring again.

After some injury confusion and penalties, the Bills put points on the board thanks to the right leg of Tyler Bass, who hit a 50-yard field goal to give Buffalo its first points of the night.

After a catch in the first quarter, Bills wide receiver Khalil Shakir was shaken and slow to get to his feet. The wideout slowly walked to the bench and received further attention from the Bills' bench medical staff.

Shakir entered Sunday Night Football in 2024 as one of Josh Allen's favorite targets and caught 14 passes for 168 yards this season.

Well, that didn't take long. The Ravens ran the ball to the right side of their offensive line on their first offensive play of the game. Derrick Henry burst through a gaping hole in the line and quickly through every level of the Buffalo defense to get the Ravens on the field.

Henry's run was the longest run in Ravens history, and Baltimore took an early 7-0 lead.

Allen still wears a glove on his non-throwing hand. He suffered a hand injury early in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season against the Arizona Cardinals but was able to overcome it.

Allen also taped the second and third fingers of his left hand together.

The Bills failed to gain a first down on their first three plays, but Sean McDermott decided to be aggressive and go for it on fourth down just inches from his own 40-yard line. Josh Allen pushed the ball up the middle for an easy first down.

Yes, for those wondering, James Cook is the younger brother of Dalvin Cook. The younger Cook went to Georgia and was selected in the second round by the Buffalo Bills in the 2022 NFL Draft. He is in his third season, while Dalvin, a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, is in his eighth season.

James Cook is 25 years old, four years younger than Dalvin, who is 29.

There was one notable statistic that posed a potential problem for Jackson. He completed just 59.1 percent of his passes during his final college season and just 57 percent overall for his college career. It's rare for quarterbacks to significantly improve their accuracy and efficiency at the NFL level, so Jackson's “propensity to miss on easy throws,” as NFL.com's Lance Zierlein put it, was an issue some talent evaluators had.

That's also why a select few — like former Indianapolis Colts general manager and ESPN talent Bill Polian — argued that Jackson should move to receiver at the NFL level.

Few agreed with Polian's opinion, although Jackson revealed on one of the Ravens podcasts that the Los Angeles Chargers had asked him to work as a receiver at the 2018 NFL Combine.

The Bills' reshaping of the receiver corps without Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis, a free agency departure, has highlighted Josh Allen's development in a diversified offense. Sure, third-year pro Khalil Shakir, a frontrunner to expand the field, continues to make progress. Shakir was targeted 14 times and took 14 catches. But for Allen, balance was the be-all and end-all.

“I think he’s distributing the ball more,” Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr told reporters this week. “You really don’t know where the ball is going to go. All of his receivers are able to get the ball in any situation and at any time – including the running backs and tight ends.”

How does Josh Allen do it?

The No. 1 team on NBC's Sunday Night Football will remain intact, at least for the foreseeable future.

According to a report from The Athletic, NBC Sports is close to securing a new four-year contract extension with top analyst Cris Collinsworth. The extension means he will remain with the network until the 2029/30 season. His current contract runs until the 2026 season.

NBC is scheduled to broadcast two more Super Bowls in the next six years, including Super Bowl 60 in 2026 and Super Bowl 64 in 2030.

Collinsworth, 65, who has won seven Emmy Awards as outstanding sports analyst, makes about $12.5 million a year and has teamed up with Mike Tirico to call games.

The Bills are currently atop the AFC East and have a chance to extend their lead with a win over the Ravens tonight. Here is the AFC East standings after Sunday's games:

  1. Bills (3-0)
  2. Jets (2-2)
  3. Dolphins (1-2)
  4. Patriots (1-3)

The Ravens have the opportunity to reduce the gap to the Steelers with a win on Sunday. This is how the AFC North looks after Sunday's games:

  1. Steelers (3-1)
  2. Ravens (1-2)
  3. Bengal (1-3)
  4. Shades of brown (1-3)

It's worth keeping an eye on the weather conditions during the Bills vs. Ravens game on Sunday Night Football. When the game starts, it will be 68 degrees and 90 percent humidity, and according to Weather.com, it will “likely” start raining around 9:45 p.m. ET.

During the game, the wind blows at speeds of up to 8 miles per hour, so it could become a challenge for the kickers once the rain starts. Early in the game, it shouldn't be too difficult for Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson to throw the ball, but it could become more difficult if rain falls on the ball later in the night.
