The Detroit Lions are back in prime time on Monday Night Football against the undefeated Seattle Seahawks.

The Lions (2-1) are hosting their second primetime game at Ford Field in the opening month of the 2024 NFL season, entering last Sunday's game with a road win over the Arizona Cardinals. This is the fourth straight season these two teams have met, with Seattle boasting a 3-0 record against Dan Campbell's teams.

Both teams come into the game with big defensive gaps that need to be filled. The Lions are without safety Brian Branch, who was demoted Saturday due to illness, in addition to the loss of linebacker Derrick Barnes, defensive end Marcus Davenport and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu to injured reserve. They will also be without their All-Pro center Frank Ragnow (torn pectoral muscle). Seattle will be without four key members of the top seven in Boye Mafe, defensive end Leonard Williams, first-round rookie defensive tackle Byron Murphy and Uchenna Nwosu.

Lions vs. Seahawks pregame notes

The Lions are looking to start their first winning streak of 2024 and end a losing streak against Seattle that dates back to 2012. The offense is still working to find the final pieces of the puzzle and put together a truly explosive performance, while the defense shouldered the load early.

The Seahawks have had excellent performances on both ends of their undefeated start, led by an extremely efficient start from quarterback Geno Smith. He completed 74.8% of his passes and averaged 262.3 yards per game, leading the Seahawks' offense to an average of 24.3 points per game. DK Metcalf, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Tyler Lockett are one of the best wide receiver trios in the NFL and on offense Kenneth Walker III returns to the backfield.

Seattle's defense has lost many key pieces in the front seven lines, but still has a strong secondary defense that has shut down a top-two pass defense for three weeks. The Lions will likely stick with a similar game plan to last week, trying to run the ball often even without Ragnow to limit the influence of Seattle corners Devon Witherspoon and Tariq Woolen.

Lions vs Seahawks Prediction, Tips

Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press: The Seahawks have had the Lions' number most recently, with wins over the past three seasons by a combined score of 136-105, but I think this game will be different. Under old coach Pete Carroll, the Lions struggled with Seattle's rushing attack, but under Macdonald the scheme has changed and the Lions are playing defense as well as anyone in the NFL right now. This won't be child's play. Walker brings balance to Seattle's offense, Metcalf is a dangerous receiver and the Seahawks have the personnel to make life difficult for Goff. But on Monday night, with the home crowd behind them, I think the more experienced Lions will emerge victorious. Picks: Lions 24, Seahawks 20.

Lions vs. Seahawks injury report

The Lions will be without Branch this week, along with the other three long-term losses on defense. Defensive tackle Alim McNeill and tight end Sam LaPorta are expected to return to their full roles a week after their loss to the Cardinals and early exit.

In addition to Mafe, Murphy, Williams and Nwosu, Seattle linebacker Jerome Baker is also out. MSU graduate and Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III will be active after missing the past two weeks with an oblique injury.
