Serhou Guirassy ensures BVB's turnaround against VfL Bochum

As of: September 27, 2024 10:21 p.m

It looked like another setback for Borussia Dortmund – until Serhou Guirassy turned up the heat. At the start of the fifth matchday, the BVB striker turned things around against VfL Bochum in the 4-2 (1-2) win on Friday evening (September 27th, 2024) with a brace and a penalty that Emre Can converted. Felix Nmecha scored BVB's fourth goal and Matus Bero and Dani de Wit gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.

After the debacle at VfB Stuttgart (1:5), the Dortmund team also had to make amends – but many will have remembered the events of five days ago relatively quickly. BVB started well and had good opportunities through Karim Adeyemi (11th) and Julian Brandt (14th) – both times saved by VfL keeper Patrick Drewes – but then they fell apart in a phase in the middle of the first half.

Bochum's double strike – and BVB are lucky

After a double pass with Philipp Hofmann, Bero brushed off Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel in the near corner and gave the guests the lead (16th). When the second goal was conceded, the Swiss national goalkeeper was much more in the spotlight when a dribble against Myron Boadu failed and he set up de Wit to make it 0-2 (21st).

Dortmund was completely beside itself – and then coach Nuri Sahin's team was even lucky that it wasn't punished for the third time. After a pass from Hofmann, Boadu was allowed to storm freely towards the opponent's goal from the halfway line, but the striker narrowly missed his shot to make it 3-0 (33').

Serhou Guirassy shows his class

And it actually took revenge, because BVB attacker Guirassy took the events as an opportunity to take the helm. The Stuttgart newcomer created a great chance with a great pass, but Brandt shot over it from an unmarked position (39'). Then a great tackle from Felix Passlack prevented Guirassy from scoring his second goal of the season (43'), but it came a few seconds later when he was able to prevail in a header duel after a cross from Brandt (44').

The class of his striker inspired BVB, who also came out of the locker room with pressure – but Drewes initially prevented the equalizer after a 16-meter shot from Pascal Groß (50th). It then fell after Guirassy, who had been outstanding until then, brought down Guirassy in his own penalty area, allowing Can to make it 2-2 with a penalty (62').

Drewes first tunneled, then made a mistake

Bochum already seemed exhausted at this point, but then suddenly had a great opportunity to take the lead again: This time, however, Kobel was there against Moritz Broschinski, who had recently been substituted (64th). And again Guirassy showed his counterpart how to behave in front of the goal. Adeyemi left the 28-year-old, who pushed the ball through Drewes' legs to give BVB the lead (75th).

A little later, a mistake by Drewes, who had been strong until then, decided the party. The Bochum goalkeeper almost punched a not particularly dangerous shot from Nmecha into his own goal (81'). Can missed BVB's fifth goal (87th) with a shot that hit the post, but that didn't change Dortmund's victory. Thank Guirassy.
