Shawn Mendes says he's still figuring out his sexuality

Shawn Mendes took some time during his concert in Colorado on Monday to address a personal topic.

In a video widely shared on social media, the 26-year-old singer paused during his performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater to reveal “the truth” about his sexuality.

“There's been this thing about my sexuality since I was really young, and people have been talking about it for so long,” he told the audience, recalling that he got into the music business at 15. “I think that's nice. It's silly because I think sexuality is such a beautiful, complex thing and it's so hard to just put it in boxes.”

The Canadian star continued: “It always felt to me like an intrusion into something very personal, something I was figuring out within myself, something I hadn't yet discovered and still have yet to discover.”

“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that like everyone else, I'm just figuring it out,” he said. “Sometimes I don’t really know, sometimes I do. And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that.”

According to the popular artist, he has decided to hold the discussion publicly now in order to be “closer to everyone.”

“I'm trying to be really brave and just allow myself to be human and feel things,” Mendes said. “And that’s all I really want to say about it right now.”

In the past, Mendes dated singer Camila Cabello and Hailey Bieber (before her marriage to singer Justin Bieber). His new, self-titled album will be released on November 15th.
