Shelley Berkley will be the next mayor of Las Vegas as Victoria Seaman drops out of the race

Shelley Berkley will be the next mayor of Las Vegas after Councilwoman Victoria Seaman conceded the race on Thursday.

In a post on her Facebook page, Seaman congratulated Berkley on winning the competition and thanked her family and supporters.

“I am confident that she will lead our city with dedication, and I am ready to support her in every way possible as Ward 2 Councilwoman and work with her to advance the interests of all of our residents,” she wrote.

As of Wednesday, Berkley was in the lead with 53.1% of the total vote.

She will succeed Carolyn Goodman, who has been mayor of Las Vegas since 2011. For the first time in 25 years, the city will have a mayor who is not a member of the Goodman family.

The two candidates made it to the general election after receiving the most votes in the June primary.

Although the Las Vegas mayoralty is a nonpartisan position, Berkley is a Democrat and Seaman is a Republican.

Berkley was previously a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Nevada's 1st Congressional District from 1999 to 2013. Before that, she served for a time as a Nevada legislator.

Seaman has been a city councilor for the second district since 2019. She also served as a Nevada legislator for two years.
