Shock poll puts Harris ahead in Iowa as vice president urges Americans to 'keep calm' during appearance on Saturday Night Live | US News

Kamala Harris has won ahead of Donald Trump in a poll in Iowa, a state that Donald Trump won easily in 2016 and 2020.

The Vice President has a three-point lead in the Midwest state, according to a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll of 808 likely voters.

“The poll shows that women – particularly those who are older or politically independent – are driving the late transition to Harris,” the poll said.

Fight for votes in swing states

The poll shows Ms. Harris in the lead Mr. Trump 47% to 44%.

The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points and follows another poll in Iowa in September that gave Mr. Trump a four-point lead, the newspaper reported.

Take Iowa would give the winner six Electoral College votes, 270 of which would be needed to become president.

Both presidential contenders have focused on key battleground states such as North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin to stay ahead in a tight race for the White House.

Early voting is already underway before the election on Tuesday.

Speaking in North Carolina, Trump told a crowd in Gastonia: “If we win this state, we'll win the whole game.”

“We have survived every attack, every abuse and even two assassination attempts,” he added. “And now it’s important.”
