Sources – Packers likely to start against Titans with Willis, not Love

Sources – Packers likely to start against Titans with Willis, not Love

Quarterback Malik Willis will be back in the starting lineup on Sunday when the Green Bay Packers visit his former team, the Tennessee Titans.

Jordan Love is unavailable for the game in Nashville, but he continues to recover from a sprained medial ligament in his left knee that he suffered at the end of the season opener on September 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles. His participation was officially listed as questionable.

But while the Packers do their best to keep their quarterback plans secret before kickoff, all signs point to Willis starting against the Titans.

Green Bay acquired Willis in a trade with Tennessee in late August. With Love out, he started last weekend's 16-10 win over the Indianapolis Colts and completed 12 of 14 passes for 122 yards with a touchdown throw.

Willis said earlier this week that he did not view Sunday's game as a rematch. The 2022 third-round pick started three games for Tennessee and finished with a 1-2 record.

“No, I don't care, man,” Willis said. “I think I got paid the whole time I was there. I'm more than grateful for the opportunities I was given. They put me in this league whether those guys are there or not. This organization took a shot at me. … They did a great job with me.”

Love participated in all three practices last week, albeit in a limited capacity, and Green Bay coach Matt LaFleur said Friday that the team would bring in off-duty players up to 90 minutes before kickoff Sunday if necessary. All signs, however, pointed to Willis starting against the Titans.

With Willis starting for the second week in a row, attention turns to the Packers' Week 4 game on Sept. 29 against the Minnesota Vikings, where Love may return.

Early Saturday, Green Bay signed quarterback Sean Clifford from the practice squad for the second consecutive year.
