Star Wars, Harry Potter and Marvel sets are on sale during Walmart's Holiday Deals event

If you have children in your life, chances are you've stepped on a Lego piece (or two) and screamed in pain. Legos have been entertaining children of all ages and terrorizing their parents for decades. The latest eschews the usual recreations of ice cream parlors and school buses and celebrates some of the most popular characters from film, television and video game franchises such as Harry Potter, Super Mario and Marvel. And with Walmart's holiday sales going strong all weekend, there are plenty of Lego sets on sale.

What types of sales will you find? There's a Marvel set discounted at $16, down from $80 to just $64. Plus, there's $9 off a Lego Advent Calendar that will keep your child busy all December while they wait to see what other sets you have for them under the tree. Because you know you can't get just one, right? Here are some of the best Lego sales currently happening during Walmart's holiday sales. (And no, you won't find these for cheaper on Amazon – we checked!)

Just make sure you hurry up. Walmart's holiday event ends tonight at 11:59 p.m. ETSo don't expect to see these prices after that.

OK, let's be honest: This might be for you. Older children and younger children who are particularly comfortable with Lego will have hours of fun putting together the 509 intricate pieces in this set. It builds the Helicarrier baseship from Marvel's Avengers films, delivering a final model that measures over 13 inches long, 8.5 inches wide and 7 inches high. This is a perfect gift for any Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan. And you'll now save $16 with the deal, enough to stock up on a few extra minifigures. Take a look at some other MCU sets also on sale to add to the mix.

The force is strong here. Any Star Wars fan ages 8 and up will be excited to put together this 502-piece set and then stage scenes with the seven (yes, seven!) included minifigures, which of course also include Darth Vader. A 25th Anniversary Clone Trooper minifigure with display stand is also included in the box. Add it to other Star Wars Lego sets and recreate some of the most famous scenes from the film. Grab two at this price because you can easily connect them to expand the corridor and allow for truly epic battle scenes between the Imperial Stormtroopers and the Rebel forces.

Okay, it's not the complete Hogwarts Castle set – but here you get a complete tower and three included characters (Cho Chang, Argus Filch and Harry Potter himself) for about 10 percent of the price. With a $9 discount, you can use the extra amount on some other Harry Potter sets that go with it. Since the sets are modular, this could be the start of an entire Harry Potter castle-building empire.

What does the Lego fan who collects Super Mario sets but seemingly has everything get? Of course, this super cute Piranha Plant, which is currently $12 off. This isn't a plant Mom would want on her window, but then again, it doesn't need watering, so… At 540 pieces, it stands 9 inches tall once built. And it's movable too. Adjust the mouth, head, stem and leaves to your liking. The best part? The only thing you need for feeding are the two coins provided.

“My son was challenged and had fun working on this set,” says one happy shopper, while numerous buyers say they love the retract feature that enhances play after construction. How does it work? Pull back the super fast racing car and it will rush forward, racing other cars. With two building options there is twice the fun. And kids ages 7 and up can grab this set, which is a cool $4 off. What will they be up against? Check out many more Lego Technic vehicles, from a Monster Jam Dragon to a Ford Mustang Shelby, many of which are also for sale for head-to-head drag racing.

Children love Advent calendars, which have 24 surprises in store every day before Christmas. At $9 off and a retail price of just $36, that's a steal for this Star Wars-inspired calendar, especially since Advent calendars tend to get more expensive as December approaches. Don't be one of those parents who grabs one at the last minute and overpays or settles for more chocolate. Every morning (because you know kids run to this calendar first thing on December 1st), they can open a window to reveal one of 18 Star Wars-themed mini-toys, five collectible Lego Star Wars figures and a Lego Star Wars to reveal a figure to assemble. From Holiday Luke Skywalker to a mini Millennium Falcon, the toys make great additions to a growing collection. Not in Star Wars? There are many other themed Lego Advent calendars to choose from, from Lego Harry Potter to one based on the classic film National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. But our biggest pro tip: If you want one of these, pull the trigger soon—Advent calendars almost always sell out by the end of October.
